Welcome to Terra Nova School of Swords

Welcome to Terra Nova School of Swords, St. John’s premier school for Sport Fencing and Historical Fencing. We offer professional instruction for students aged 8 and up, from complete beginners to competitive athletes and historical fencing enthusiasts.

Our Sport Fencing program focuses on Epee and Sabre, developing speed, precision, strategy, athleticism, and the competitive skills needed to succeed at the highest levels of the sport. Our program is designed not only to teach children how to fence, but to develop athletes with the goal of competing, placing, and representing Newfoundland and Labrador at major competitions.

We are especially proud to have Terra Nova athletes selected to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2027 Canada Winter Games. Our goal is to continue building a strong youth development pathway that gives the next generation of fencers the training, experience, and competitive opportunities they need to earn their place at the Games and compete for the podium.

For those interested in the traditions of swordsmanship, our Historical Fencing program focuses on Rapier, Smallsword, and Historical Sabre. Students explore the techniques, tactics, and principles of historical swordsmanship while developing practical fencing skills in a safe and engaging environment.

We offer programs for children, youth, and adults, along with private lessons, workshops, and special events. Whether your goal is to compete, learn historical swordsmanship, improve your fitness, or simply try something completely new, there is a place for you at Terra Nova School of Swords.
